Agriculture is the mainstay of occupation, with 90% of the population working in the sector. It makes for the main source of economy in these regions. Forestry and cottage industries also make up for an important source of income. Tourism is also booming, but at a slow pace, due to it geographical location and isolation, also the political instability of the state.

The staple food of Nagas is rice and it is eaten with meat or vegetables. Meat could range from Mithun, cats, dogs, crabs, spiders to elephants, which is a delicacy. No part of the animal is wasted, it is either eaten or preserved to make something else like animal skin is used to make shields. Meat and vegetable is cooked together and food is generally boiled.
